Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi is set to address the Maldivian parliament on June 8.
Secretary General of the Parliament, Fathimath Niusha revealed that Modi will address the Parliament during a meeting on June 8 at 6:00pm. Cabinet Ministers and ambassadors appointed to the Maldives will be invited to take part in the meeting.
It will also mark Mr. Modi’s first state visit to the island nation, about six months after he attended Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s swearing-in ceremony.
Modi’s visit in June is expected to further strengthen ties, in addition to reaffirming his neighbourhood-first policy. On the cards are possible collaborations on health and a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty.
