The Parliament committee to formulate Standing Orders have decided to establish a total os 17 committees in the 19th session of the parliament, with the addition of five new committees.
Speaking to the Press on Sunday, Secretary General of the Parliament, Fathimath Niusha revealed that the Committee to Formulate Standing Orders have decided to establish five new permanent committees.
The new committees include; Committee on Decentralization, Committee on Judiciary, Committee on Environment and Climate Change, Committee on Human Rights and Gender along with Committee on Foreign Relations. In addition to this, the Committee on National Development has been renamed to Committee on National Development and Heritage.
With the inclusion of the Committee to Formulate Standing Orders, the Parliament has 12 committees. These are; General Purpose Committee, Committee on Petitions, Committee on Privileges, Committee on Ethics, Committee on Secondary Legislation, Public Finance Committee, Economic Affairs Committee, Social Affairs Committee, Committee on Security Services, Committee on Independent Institutions, Committee on Oversight of the Government and Committee on National Security.
