Maldives Customs has successfully intercepted and seized drugs worth MVR 800,000 that were being smuggled into the country from Thailand.
According to Customs officials, the illicit consignment was discovered during an additional search of a general goods shipment that arrived by air last night. Upon suspicion, authorities conducted a thorough inspection, leading to the discovery of drugs hidden in 20 packets. Initial tests confirmed the presence of cannabis.
The total weight of the seized drugs was 1,097 grams, with an estimated street value of MVR 877,600. Following standard procedures, the confiscated drugs have been handed over to the Maldives Police for further investigation.
Authorities continue to strengthen border security measures to prevent drug trafficking and ensure public safety.
