Parliament Committee on Regulation has decided to extend debate timings to four hours.

The newly formed 11 member committee came to the decision during a meeting held on Thursday. As per the old regulation, three hours are appointed for debating on bills and various topics.

The three hours allocated to debating were previously distributed in relation to the percentage of members represented from each party. Hence, the parties with the most members receive the most amount of time.

With the decision, each member will receive two minutes for debate. In addition to this, one hour will be dedicated to debating between six parties, as such each party will receive ten minutes for debate.

The 11 member committee was formed to revise the Parliament Regulation within 30 days.

The committee suggested by Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim includes; Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef, Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz, Naifaru MP Ahmed Siyam, Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir, Villingilli MP Saud Hussain, West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef, Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef along with Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj.
