Former President Mohamed Nasheed's daughter, Meera Laila Nasheed has said that the decision by the MDP Parliamentary Group during last night's meeting was quite a surprise and that she was left speechless following.

MDP issued a whip-line for both votes which nominated North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Central Mahchangolhi MP Mohamed Nasheed as the Speaker of Parliament, at the meeting held last night with the unanimous vote of the members at the meeting.

Meera revealed that she had her phone turned off for a while and hence she learnt about the decision of the PG way afterwards. Hinting at the difference of opinion amongst MDP regarding the vote, Meera had previously said that we should focus more on running the country and getting back on the right path.

She added that it would be a little sad to miss out on her father and MP Eva's constructive debates on the Parliament floor. She even went on to say that, with the decision by the PG of MDP, the Parliament will never support a coup of any sorts.
