A tragic seaplane crash off the coast of Western Australia has claimed the lives of three people, including a local pilot and two European tourists. The accident occurred on Tuesday evening shortly after the plane took off from Rottnest Island, a popular tourist destination known for its quokkas.

Authorities confirmed that among the deceased were a 65-year-old Swiss woman, a 60-year-old Danish man, and the 34-year-old Australian pilot. Four others survived the crash, including a 63-year-old Swiss man, a 58-year-old Danish woman, and an Australian couple in their 60s.

Western Australia’s Premier Roger Cook expressed his condolences, describing the crash as a heartbreaking event that unfolded in front of tourists enjoying their summer holiday.

Initial reports suggest the plane may have struck a rock during takeoff, but officials have yet to confirm the cause of the crash. Investigations are ongoing.

Located about 30 kilometres west of Perth, Rottnest Island is a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors with its stunning scenery and unique wildlife. This incident has cast a shadow over the island's vibrant holiday atmosphere.
