A man convicted in a previous robbery case has been arrested for breaking into a shop and stealing mobile phones.

The suspect, identified as Azmeel Mohamed, 40, from R. Meedhoo, was taken into custody around 0400hrs for a theft at the 'Spy and Tech' shop. During the arrest, police recovered five stolen mobile phones.

Azmeel was presented in court and remanded in police custody for 15 days.

Previously, Azmeel was convicted of robbing the 'Craves Takeaway' restaurant on 6 October 2024 and was sentenced to five months and 22 days of house arrest.

Police revealed that Azmeel has been arrested 59 times for various offences, including drug use, theft, and dacoity, making him a repeat offender with a long criminal record.
