Telecom giant Dhiraagu has established wifi hotspots in the parks located in Male City, and have officially begun the services.

The services were inaugurated during a ceremony held at the Rasrani Bageecha on Sunday, by Male' City Mayor Shifa Mohamed and Dhiraagu Managing Director Ismail Rasheed.

According to Dhiraagu, free wifi will be available at the hotspots for a total of 30 minutes. Upon using up the free 100 mb allowance, users will be presented with an option to keep browsing further with the aid of add-ons.

Users who connect to the wifi network will be prompted to login using their mobile number and verification is enabled through an OTP sent to the given mobile number. While the services have begun in Male City so far, they will be extended to neighbouring Hulhumale and Villimale in the near future as well.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ismail Rasheed said that the public would benefit greatly from the establishment of hotspots in places which draws out great crowds.

Mayor Shifa also noted that in the digital age, internet has become a basic necessity.
