Following a devastating fire that rendered their shared building unusable, three ministries—the Ministry of Housing, Ministry of Infrastructure, and Ministry of Environment—are considering temporarily relocating their operations to Dharubaaruge. The fire, which broke out yesterday, caused significant damage to the building, leading to the suspension of services provided by these ministries.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the Ministry officials and reviewed plans for the relocation to ensure a swift restoration of essential services. Discussions are ongoing to finalise the temporary arrangements.
The Male' City Council, which also operated from the affected building, reported disruptions to its services. In a statement on its X account, the council assured residents that efforts are underway to maintain uninterrupted service delivery. For the time being, the council’s operations have been shifted to Hulhumale'.
In the immediate aftermath of the fire, the nearby social centre provided temporary shelter to 50 residents displaced from their homes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
