A fire broke out in the Housing Ministry building on Ameenee Magu, causing significant disruption. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) confirmed the incident, stating that Fire and Rescue teams are actively working to bring the blaze under control.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began on the first floor of a tin-structured section on the western side of the building. Thick smoke made it difficult to locate the exact source of the fire. Fortunately, the building was unoccupied at the time.

Authorities swiftly evacuated nearby residents and cordoned off the area to ensure public safety.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu visited the site with officials to assess the situation. Despite ongoing efforts, reports indicate that the fire is still not fully contained.

The building houses the Housing Ministry, including the office of Minister Dr Ali Haider Ahmed on the second floor, as well as the Ministry’s IT section.

The fire is believed to have started early in the morning, between 0630 - 0645hrs. Efforts to extinguish it are ongoing, with further updates anticipated.
