he National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has decided to terminate the agreement for a building rented to house its operations, following allegations of corruption in the procurement process.
The corruption allegations arose when NSPA rented a building from Maldives Media House, the company behind the recently launched TV channel MMTV, for a total of MVR 34 million over five years. NSPA rented the place with the approval of the National Tender Board and through an open tender process.
When the issue surfaced, NSPA requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the matter last Friday night.
In a press release issued today, NSPA stated that false information is being spread through various media outlets, tarnishing the reputation of the company in relation to the transaction involving the rented building from Maldives Media House.
Due to the significant material and moral damage caused to the company, Maldives Media House has proposed to terminate the agreement, according to the statement.
NSPA said that after consulting with the Ministry of Finance, the agency has decided to terminate the agreement.
The statement also mentioned that further necessary transactions and procedures related to the termination of the agreement will be carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance.
