Indian Election: Counting underway, Modi leads

As the votes from the Indian General Election are being counted, the results currently show the current Prime Minister in the lead.

The counting of the votes from the election that spanned for six months through seven phases, began this morning. The results up to 11 a.m. show Prime Minister Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with 294 of 542 seats at the parliament.

Exit polls showed Modi winning the election.

As results show, the main opposition party, Rahul Gandhi’s Congress Party is headed towards a defeat.

Before the election, the Elections Commission of India said that close to 900 million of voting in the election.

The counting is estimated to finishing tonight or tomorrow morning.
