Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau has stated that members of the parliament do not need any additional insurance, adding that they do not be need to paid an allowance after leaving office as well.
Shujau was speaking during the debate on a resolution moved today to seek the views of the existing MPs to make necessary changes to the law to ensure that the number of MPs does not decrease.
Shujau highlighted that he does not believe that the insurance services provided to MPs should be available for a lifetime, even after the member resigns or leaves office.
In addition, the allowances of the Presidents and the allowances of the judges should be changed, he said, adding that what is needed is an insurance system that is equally available to all citizens.
“Members of Parliament have Aasandha, and get separate additional insurance, people working in government-owned companies get Aasandha and insurance from the company, which is a burden on the state," he stressed.
