Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has met with the Vice Prime Minister for Romania’s Strategic Partnerships’ Implementation Her Excellency, Ana Birchall this morning.

The meeting held at the Victoria Palace, the Office of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Shahid and the Vice Prime Minister discussed the existing bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Minister Shahid also congratulated at the fulfilling role undertaken by Romania as the President of the Council of the European Union.

Minister Shahid and the Vice Prime Minister also discussed the cooperation initiatives to enhance collaboration between Maldives and Romania in areas such as healthcare services, disaster risk management, trade investments, education, information technology and countering terrorism and violent extremism.

Minister Shahid also expressed the desire of the Maldivian government to further promote fish products in the European markets.

The two countries will celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel and the Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fathimath Razana accompanied Minister Shahid at the meeting.
