At least 15 people have been killed in collision between a freight train and a passenger train in India's West Bengal state.
The incident occurred on Monday morning in the Darjeeling district and was the cause was initially reported as human error.
News reports stated that at least 15 bodies have been pulled from the carriages while about 30 people suffered injuries in the collision. Darjeeling state's police rescue teams and national disaster response force are working with medical officers and residents in the area to clear the debris, reports stated.
According to the authorities, three of the 15 reported fatalities are railway personnel.
West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated on X that medical officers, ambulances, and disaster terms have been dispatched to the crash site.
Photos from the crash site show one train rammed into another with one train compartment lifted up into the air over the other train.
