Singapore on Sunday announced the closure of beaches on three Singapore islands following an oil spill in the coastlines on Friday.

The beaches at St John's, Lazarus and Kusu islands were shut after oil slicks were seen at the first two islands.

This closure comes in addition to the closure of areas B to H of East Coast Park as well as the jetty and show of Labrador Nature Reserve which have been closed since Saturday.

While Sentosa's beaches remain open to the public, the authorities have banned swimming and sea activities at Tanjong, Palawan and Siloso waters.

Oil has been washing up in several beaches after a dredger his a stationary bunker at Pasir Panjang Terminal, authorities revealed.
