German police on Sunday shot a man who threatened officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device at the Euro 2024 football fan parade in Central Hamburg.

According to authorities, the perpetrator suffered and injury to his leg and is receiving medical care and his condition is not life-threatening.

Hamburg police spokesperson said that he tried to set fire to a Molotov cocktail and approached several people including police officers, leading to him being shot at.

The authorities said the motive for his attack remains unclear and there is no evidence the man had any connection to the Euro 2024 tournament.

The incident occurred in St Paul district ahead of Poland vs Netherlands' match at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion.
