STELCO's Managing Director Hussain Fahmy has stated that the new power plant in K. Dhiffushi will be a state-of-the-art facility that will operate seamlessly.
Fahmy made the comments while speaking at the ceremony to kick-off the power plant project. He noted that the current power plant was located in a residential area which inconveniences the residents.
"As such, the new power plant will be developed in an area that would not inconvenience the residents," Fahmy said.
He added that project is directly funded by STELCO and so there won't be any obstacles in proceeding with the project. He assured that the contractor will have a conducive environment to work on the project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Thulusdhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Naseem said that electrical services are crucial for an island like Dhiffushi where local tourism is thriving.
He expressed hope that the construction will be completed in a timely manner and the services will be provided in a sustainable manner.
Dhiffushi Council President Ibrahim Sunil said that STELCO has always worked to modernise the existing electric network in the island.
STELCO said the new power plant is designed to modern standards, with the capacity to expand services in the long-term.
