Criminal Court has sentenced a man for six months in prison for domestic abuse and threatening to kill his mother.

Ibrahim Ikram, H. Garden Beauty, was sentenced for violating a protection order issued by Civil Court.

Prosecution had charged him with violating Civil Court's June 2022 order not to harass his mother, Aishath Saeed, not to verbally abuse her, not to inflict mental torture, not to cause financial or economic hardships, not to intimidate, abuse, or damage property.

According to the charge sheet filed at Criminal Court, Ikram had been subjecting his mother to various forms of torture since 24 February 2023.

Prosecution said Ikram had physically assaulted his mother, causing her injuries.

Ikram admitted to the charges brought against him, confessing to physical assault, adding that his confession was given without any interference or coercion.

As such, Ikram was sentenced to six months in prison.
