Parliament's Committee on National Security Services has decided to summon Minister of Homeland Security, Ali Ihsan for questioning on measures taken by the State to address security issues.
MP for North Maafannu and MNP leader Mohamed Nazim, who proposed to summon Minister Ihsan, said that there are multiple threats to national security that the Government had said they will address. He said the Government has been in power for over 6 months and the measures taken by the Government should be publicised.
Nazim highlighted that the country has a growing migrant crisis, uncontrolled drug trafficking as well as multiple theft cases. He added that there have been instances of people dying of drug overdoses in non-residential areas, and a black market has formed for buying and selling stolen goods.
As such, he added that Male' City Council should stop allowing certain businesses to operate in the capital.
Nazim's proposal to summon Minister Ihsan was supported by a majority of the committee members.
