Maldives on Wednesday launched a special telethon to raise funds and help the Palestinian people.

The telethon started at 8:00 am today and will continue till 12:00 am.

The telethon was inaugurated by President Dr Mohammed Muizzu. State ministers donated money to the fund box during the opening.

Speaking at the launch of the telethon, PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir said 13 fund boxes have been set up in the Male area.

All the boxes will remain open until sunset except the fund box inside the TVM grounds. Those fund boxes will remain open until 10:00 pm tonight. Police, girl guides and scouts will be deployed in the areas where the fund boxes are located.

Zeena urged everyone to participate in the telethon.

Zeena said activities are being conducted in collaboration with councils and associations in different islands to support the telethon as well. The ministries will continue to provide assistance at the ministry level and companies at the company level, he said.

This is a very well supported event and Crowe Maldives has been appointed as an independent auditor to ensure that the fundraising activities of the telethon are being conducted and the proceeds are being used to help Palestine.

Zeena said the proceeds of the telethon will be handed over to the Foreign Ministry first. The money will then be delivered to Palestine through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).

Zeena said she hopes to raise a nominal amount of money through the event.

Two accounts have been opened to enable those who cannot reach the boxes to deposit money online. The funds can be deposited into the account 7730000655865 in local currency and 7730000655866 in dollars.

Special children's activities will also be held in connection with the telethon at TVM grounds this evening. There will be face painting and drawing and painting activities.

Zeena said she hoped the telethon would further show the example of the people of Maldives in helping Palestine.
