Maldives Foreign Ministry has said that the Residency Visa for Maldivians living in Sri Lanka would be issued from the Sri Lankan Embassy in the Maldives.
Talking to One Online today, the Communications Director at the Ministry, Miuwan Mohamed, said that the Residency Visa for Maldivians living in Sri Lanka would be issued in Maldives from 15 May 2019 on wards. And the procedure for Visit Visa to Sri Lanka would remain unchanged.
He said that the change was made by the Sri Lankan government based on the current situation in the country. And foreigners living in Sri Lanka has to acquire their residency visa in their home countries.
Miuwan said that Maldivians currently living in Sri Lanka would not be affected by this change and when their visa expires, it can be renewed.
Regarding the change, the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid, currently in Sri Lanka, said that he would discuss the change to Residency Visa and other changes with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe and other leaders.
The Foreign Minister said that he is hopeful of a good solution.
