Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to attend his swearing-in ceremony for a third term as the country's Prime Minister.

The Maldivian government has not yet officially announced that President Dr. Muizzu has been invited to Modi's inauguration ceremony. However, Indian newspapers have reported that Modi has sent an invitation to President Dr. Muizzu to attend the ceremony.

No confirmation has been obtained regarding the matter since President's Office Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed did not answer the phone when contacted. As such, it remains unclear whether President Dr. Muizzu has accepted the invitation.

The long-standing relationship between the Maldives and India has experienced a setback during this Government's term. The biggest setback came when the Government made efforts to send Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives back to India.

Despite the strained relationship, Maldives and India are working to strengthen their ties once again to the level they were before.

When Modi was first sworn in as Prime Minister, the then-President Abdulla Yameen attended the ceremony.
