Finance Ministry has said the Government has repaid MVR 1 billion in loans so far this year.

According to the Ministry's data, the Government has paid MVR 1 billion as loan repayments, with interests adding up to MVR 1.6 million in total.

In addition to loans, the Government owes MVR 5.2 billion in interest on its borrowings.

As per the statistics, the repayments will cost MVR 2.2 billion this year.

The state's total debt rose to MVR 126 billion at the end of the first quarter of the current fiscal year, due to an increase in domestic debt. According to the budget report, the Government's debt is expected to rise to MVR 131 billion by the end of the current fiscal year.

The Government has to pay MVR 15 billion in 2026 as debt repayment.
