The Parliamentary Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on Wednesday decided to appoint staff for parliamentary groups, including the majority leader and minority leader.

As per the procedure decided at the committee's meeting today to appoint staff, the majority leader and the minority leader will have two employees.

The salary of each employee isMVR 20,000, but the policy gives each leader the right to choose an employee for a salary of MVR 30,000.

The committee has also decided to appoint staff for parliamentary groups.

These include an employee for a parliamentary group with less than 10 members, two employees for a parliamentary group with 11 to 20 members, three employees for a group of members between 21 and 30 members, and four for a parliamentary group with more than 30 members.

According to the policy, these employees are not members of parliament even if they have worked in parliament, but their salaries will be deposited by the parliament, but no other allowance of non-salary money shall be given by parliament.

The employees will be hired and dismissed by that PG group, and all matters relating to the employees of that PG group will be made by that PG group, as per the policy.
