Maldives Parliament today approved the appointment of Ahmed Saleem as the Chair of the Security Services Committee, and Qasim Ibrahim as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
The Parliament approved the names sent by the parties for appointment to the committees during today's session.
Saleem was appointed as the Chair of the 241 Committee unanimously while Inguraidhoo MP and PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falaah was appointed Vice Chair.
Qasim was also appointed to the Finance Committee unanimously while Saleeem was appointed Vice Chair.
Composition of some key committees:
- 241 Committee: Eight members from the PNC, one from each other party and one independent member
- Finance Committee: Two MDP members, one JP member and eight PNC members
- State Owned Enterprises (SOE) Committee: Two MDP members, one MNP member and eight PNC members
- Information and Communication Technology Committee: One MDP member and 10 PNC members
- Human Rights and Gender Committee: One JP member, one MDP member and nine PNC members
- Environment and Climate Change Committee: One MDP member and 10 PNC members
- Judiciary Committee: Nine PNC members and two MDP members
- Decentralization Committee: Nine PNC members, one MDP member and one independent member
- Foreign Relations Committee: Nine PNC members and two MDP members
- National Development and Heritage Committee: One MDP member, one independent member and nine PNC members
- Government Accountability Committee: Eight PNC members, two MDP members and one MDA member
- Independent Institutions Committee: Nine members from the PNC and one from the MDP and MNP
- Social Committee: one MDP member, one independent member and nine PNC members
- Economic Committee: One MDA member, three MDP members and seven PNC members
- Finance Committee: One JP member, two MDP members and eight PNC members
- Rules Committee: One member from MDP and MDA and nine members from PNC
- Privileges and Ethics Committee: One MDP member and 10 PNC members
- Petition Committee: One member from MDA and MDP and nine members from PNC
- General Committee: MDP, one independent member and nine PNC members
