The Parliament has approved the appointment of Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau as a member of the Clemency Board.

The Clemency Board is established to examine and recommend appeals to the President for amnesty and commutation of sentences. The Clemency Board operates under the supervision of the Attorney General. The Chairman of the Board is the Attorney General.

The Clemency Board consists of 11 members. The board consists of a person from the legal profession, an academic, a social worker, a health worker, a religious scholar, a civil society activist, a member of the parole board, a police officer, a judiciary, and a member appointed by Parliament.

PNC Parliamentary Group Leader, Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falaah moved the appointment of Shujau as a member of the board. The motion was supported by Villimale MP Mohammed Ismail.

Shujau's name was approved by 88 out of 89 present members of the Parliament.
