The American Express Card can now be used to pay for bus services and ferry services provided by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

MTCC said yesterday that the "Tap and Go" feature will now allow customers to pay for bus and ferry tickets using American Express debit and credit cards.

RTL bus tickets was available in January 2023 using cash cards. They made it possible to pay for the bus using MasterCard and Visa debit or credit cards.

Payments for bus trips are now available in three ways. They can be paid in cash, ticket reservations on the company's website or app and cash cards.

People over the age of 65 and children under the age of 3 can travel free of charge on presentation of their ID cards. NSPA cards are also eligible for people with special needs.

School students in uniform and students studying in colleges can travel free on buses and ferries on presentation of their college or university cards.

Buses in the city area are in demand. MTCC bus services are available every 15 minutes during peak hours.
