Speaker of the Parliament and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem has said that there will be scope for different opinions, views, and perspectives in the debates, speeches and works done in the Parliament and they should be done in such a way that the dignity of the Parliament is not violated.

Abdul Raheem made the remarks after taking over as the Speaker of the House.

He said parliament should function within the parameters of ethics and discipline.

"While our priority should be to address the problems faced by the country, we should also try to improve the internal atmosphere of parliament, the functioning of parliament, staff and administrative services," Abdul Raheem said.

He further said that he would welcome the values of democracy and the views of citizens, adding that from the time a case is raised in parliament, he will study and rectify the issues that arise until the issue or the bill is completed.

He added that the Parliament should give time to improve relations within the Parliament and foreign parliaments and organisations.

"I assure you that my full participation, attention and time will be available to the honourable members and staff of the Parliament in all these matters," Abdul Raheem said.
