Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has stated that the 20th Parliament will always be on par with the work of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
After assuming the speakership of Parliament, Abdul Raheem said that this is a time when important decisions have to be taken as a country.
"Expanding the economy, creating new jobs, skills, and businesses, finding ways to increase money and financial prosperity, introducing new levels of structural development, re-weaving the social fabric of the country, fighting the drug epidemic, closing the doors of illegal immigrants, ensuring the independence of the country, maintaining the reputation and dignity of the parliament are the issues that need to be discussed and debated in the coming days and worked with the government,” he said.
He said the work of the Parliament should include the introduction of new laws and the existing laws should be reviewed and amended while outdated laws should be repealed. The existing regulations should also be closely examined to ensure that they are made within the law's framework with the law's authority and the regulations outside the law should be incorporated or omitted.
"There should be room for differences of opinion, views, and perspectives in the speeches, debates, and work in Parliament, but they should be conducted in a manner that upholds the dignity and respect of Parliament” he said.
He said he hoped that the country would enjoy prosperity, progress and stability during the next five years and that the people would be happy and proud.
