Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has revealed that the seaplane terminal will be relocated to the Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort (Furana Fushi).
Speaking at a news conference today, the Minister stated that the plan is to convert the existing seaplane terminal into a full service jet terminal. He added that this is the vision of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who wishes to launch it as a proper service after the conversion.
In addition, the existing seaplane landing area will be dredged to construct a bigger and more spacious domestic terminal.
The most feasible option is to move the seaplane terminal to the Full Moon Resort, he said, adding that the decision would increase the space needed to further develop the airport and speed up the entire operation.
Saeed said while the world's largest seaplane industry is in the Maldives, the traffic congestion at main airport could be alleviated by relocating the seaplane terminal.
He said the capacity of the existing seaplane terminal is full.
