Maldives Immigration has stated that the Sri Lankan denied entry into Maldives was due to a deportation on record.

One has come to know that the man denied entry into Maldives is Nashid Perera who was previously married to a Maldivian. Following the denial, his lawyers and some members of the public have raised concerns.

Addressing the issue, Immigration posted on X saying that the man was deported as per Immigration Regulation's Clause 8.

"As such, the man has been deported under Section 20 of the Immigration Act for an indefinite period of time with effect from May 4, 2024 under Section 33 of the Act," Immigration said.

Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Sham'an posted on X that entry clearance is defined in the Immigration Act and Maldives Immigration will not discriminate against anyone.
