President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for the immediate implementation of the International Court of Justice(ICJ)'s order against Israel to immediately halt attacks on Rafah in Gaza.

In a petition filed by South Africa in the ICJ seeking an order to immediately stop Israeli attacks on Gaza and prevent Israeli troops from invading Rafa and send humanitarian aid into Gaza, the Court ordered an immediate halt to Israeli military activities that would harm the Palestinian people living in Rafah.

The Court also ordered the immediate opening of the only road leading to Rafah as soon as possible to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Rafah, and the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops deployed in Rafah.

Noting that the Maldives welcomes the order, President Dr. Muizzu said in a post on X that Israel should stop the atrocities committed in Rafah and open the Rafah border for safe flow of humanitarian aid.

He said an end to attacks on Rafah would be a step towards peace, but permanent peace would only be achieved if the 1967 Palestinian-Israeli border was agreed to and East Jerusalem was made the capital of Palestine.
