Maldivian Foreign Ministry has advised the Maldivians living abroad to obey the laws of other countries.

Following the arrest of three Maldivians in Sri Lanka for illegal import of cigarettes on 5 May 2019, the Director of Communications of the Maldivian Foreign Ministry, Miuwan Mohamed, today, said that the Maldivians in other countries must keep their actions within the laws of their respective countries.

The three Maldivians arrested in Sri Lana were released after their arrest.

While many Maldivians travel to the neighboring Sri Lanka every day, the Sri Lankan customs regulation have banned the import of Cigarettes.
