President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu is making changes to political appointees and positions to strengthen the efficiency of the government further, the President's Office said on Thursday.
As of late, some political appointees are being dismissed while some are being replaced.
A journalist asked whether some politicians are being suspended and others are being fired on corruption charges and whether the MMPRC Managing Director Fathimath 'Kudii' Thaufeeq was fired for corruption.
Answering the questions, Chief Spokesperson at the President's Office Heena Waleed said the President has the power to shape things in a way that makes it easier for him to run the government. These include appointments and transfers to companies and appointments and transfers to government ministries.
“He will always do what he needs to do to facilitate or strengthen and improve the running of the government,” Heena said.
Some of the notable positions include Ahmed Zuhoor as Chairman of HDC, Ahmed Shamah as CEO of MIFCO and Fathimath Thaufeeq as Managing Director of MMPRC, all of whom have been dismissed from their positions. However, Shamah has been appointed as the State Minister of Fisheries.
In addition, some state ministers have been suspended for various reasons.
