Hassan Zareer has been appointed as the Commissioner General of Taxation of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
Zareer was appointed to the post at a ceremony held at the President's Office this morning by President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu.
The Parliament approved the appointment of Zareer as the Commissioner General of Taxation on 13th of this month. 41 members voted in favor of Zareer's appointment as Commissioner General of Taxation.
The post of Tax Commissioner became vacant after the incumbent Fathullah Jameel resigned to contest the parliamentary elections.
Prior to his appointment as Tax Commissioner, Zareer was the Chairman of the Bank of Maldives (BML). He was the Chairman of BML from March 7 to yesterday.
According to the President’s Office, Hassan Zareer has held various tax and audit related positions since 2000.
Zareer was most recently Director of Finance and Group Chief Compliance Officer of Villa Shipping and Trading Company Pvt.
Zareer has previously served as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation as well.
Zareer holds a Bachelor of Accounting and Master of Science Finance degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He also holds qualifications as a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA, CGMA) in the UK and a Certified Practicing Accountant in Australia.
