As per the agreement, the new date for completion of work is September 30, 2026. The deadline for completion of the bridge connecting Male' and Villingili, which is Section A of the project, is May 31, 2026. India's AFCONS was contracted with the Thilamale' Bridge project in August 2021. This will be the biggest project carried out by India in the Maldives. The project is being conducted with a USD 100 million grant and a USD 400 million line of credit by Indian Government. Work on the Bridge project began in August 2022.
Under the project, the main sea bridges between the two islands of the causeway link with a 6.7-km-long bridge will have 140 km. In addition, there is a marine viaduct of 1.45 km in deep lagoons, 2.32 km of marine viaduct on the sea/coast, and a 2.96-km road equal to the ground.
Traffic lights will be installed at the intersection between Male' and Villimale' Bridge. The Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi bridges will have a wall junction. Each island will have bus stations connecting the village. Solar panels will be installed and the bows will be made solar-powered.
