The Government of Maldives has met with the Standing Committee of China's Yunnan Province and discussed ways to boost trade ties.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed held the talks on behalf of the Government of Maldives during his ongoing visit to the Maldives by Vice Chair of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, Li Xiaosan.

Discussions were held with Yunnan Province to enhance cooperation in trade and sports, the Ministry said in a statement, adding that the long-standing ties between the Maldives and Yunnan Province have provided an opportunity to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the areas of Kunming Fair and sports, especially table tennis.

In a post on X, Minister Saeed said that the visit of the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Yunnan Province to the Maldives will be a stepping stone for further strengthening the country's longstanding ties with the province and enhancing cooperation in the areas of trade and investment.
