Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has said that it will cost around MVR 600 million to install AC's in all the schools across the nation.

Minister Shafiu wrote on his personal blog that as per his understanding, the AC's in the schools will be operated by solar power. He added that the 4,700 classrooms across the country will need 9,400 AC's in total.

The minister said that the cost of maintenance of AC would also cost MVR 3.5 million per annum and the cost of repair would be MVR 10 million per annum and the total cost of the annual cost would be MVR 178.5 million.

"The cost of renovating the classrooms is estimated to be at MVR 470 million," he said.

Minister Dr. Shafeeu further added that the cable casting installation cost will be at least MVR 130 million and as such, the total project across the country would be an estimated MVR 600 million.

He said the project will be launched within the year to be completed in two years time.
