The Professional Standards Command has been asked to investigate the police conduct during the arrest of three who were threatened the police.

Three men have been arrested for allegedly threatening two policemen with knives at around 10:00 pm last night. They are a 35-year-old man and two 39-year-olds.

Police said they had received multiple complaints about the police's conduct in the arrests and had asked the Professional Standards Command to investigate the matter.

Three Maldivians have been arrested in connection with a fight in a video circulated on social media yesterday.

Police Spokesperson Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan said in a post on X yesterday that the use of force in such cases is reviewed as a matter of course.

“If there was any misuse of force by a police officer in this incident, the situation will be investigated further,” he said.

A video circulated on social media yesterday showed two policemen in paint and uniforms using force to arrest a man. Police also told the public not to videotape the incident.
