The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has stopped collecting fees levied on vehicles entering garbage transfer stations in the greater Male' area.

WAMCO stopped charging the MVR 150 fee starting last Tuesday.

According to WAMCO, the tipping fee for a tonne of waste brought to transfer stations by the general public, small businesses and commercial transport service providers will now be MVR 500 per tonne. Earlier, 50 laari per kg was collected.

WAMCO further said that it has now stopped charging prices based on weight till all transfer stations in the male' area have a proper garbage weight monitoring facility - weigh bridge.
