Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has revealed that the operation of the third of five children sent abroad for bone marrow transplant was also successful.
At a press conference at the Health Ministry today, Khaleel said the third child sent abroad for bone marrow transplantation was in good health.
"In addition to the two successful bone marrow operations, the third child's operation is also successful. The remaining two children are being crossmatched," Khaleel said.
The government has decided to send 10 children abroad for bone marrow transplant this year. In the past, the bone marrow crossmatch test was very difficult to perform in the Maldives.
Previously, bone marrow matching tests were not done unless the donor and the patient went abroad. However, with the initiative of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the test is now available in the Maldives.
