Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has welcomed Bank of Maldives (BML)'s decision to introduce WeChat Pay in overseas markets, as a payment method on its Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal network, allowing merchants to accept QR payments from the popular Chinese app.
In a post on X, Minister Saeed said the introduction of We Chat Pay in the Maldives will make it easier for visitors and businesses to make payments easier and improve the payment system.
With WeChat Pay being made available on its POS terminal network, the popular Chinese app will now allow businesses to accept QR payments. Previously, WeChat pay was available only through the BML payment gateway.
BML is one of the largest providers of merchant payment solution in the country and offers a wide range of products and services for various business segments and customers.
In addition to debit and credit cards issued by major global companies such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Union Pay, and Union Pay, the bank offers cash acceptance services through digital wallets such as BML Pay, Ali Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
