Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced re-development work of Izzudheen Jetty.
The jetty was developed by MTCC in 2015 during former president Abdulla Yameen's tenure to mark the 50th Independence Day of the Maldives.
The re-development project was contracted to MTCC by Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.
Scope of work for the project includes demolition of the old jetty, concrete work on the new jetty, design of steel structure, and woodwork. The project is valued at MVR 11.7 million, to be completed within 270 days.
The current jetty is designed to represent the sails on the boats used by Maldivians in the past. According to the government, the new design will reflect the nationalism and culture and will be designed to be used for a long time.
