A Chinese company has been awarded the contract for the construction of 1,000 housing units in Baa Atoll Eydhafushi.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Construction Ministry at a ceremony held at the Ministry yesterday by Minister Abdullah Muthalib.
The project has been awarded to China's state-owned Sinohydro Corporation.
The agreement to build 1,000 housing units in Eydhafushi has been signed after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu pledged a mega housing project in the island during the campaign trail for the Parliamentary elections.
During his campaign visit to Eydhafushi on April 5, the President said that a 1,000 housing unit project would be launched soon in the island.
The President said the construction of 1,000 housing units in Eydhafushi would bring good results to the island and the entire constituency. The project will benefit Eydhafushi as well as the entire Atoll. The project will also solve the housing crisis in the area, he said.
