The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported 117 cases of Chikungunya from the 28th of last month to the 4th of this month.

The HPA said tonight that 240 cases of Chikungunya have been reported in the country so far. There were 117 cases of Chikungunya last month and 58 cases so far this month.

The highest number of cases have been reported in the city. There are 193 cases in Male City and 40 in Hulhumale. Two cases have been reported in Haa Alif Atoll while single cases have been reported by Baa, Shaviyani and Laamu Atolls.

Chikungunya is a viral fever transmitted by mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever. The disease causes joint pain and sometimes inflammation that lasts for many days even if the painful disease heals. Symptoms appear within 3-7 days of the infected mosquito bites.
