Izzuddin Jetty was developed in 2015 under former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to mark the 50th anniversary of the country's independence.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been entrusted with the task of repairing it.

Izzuddin Jetty is commonly used for president visits and foreign dignitaries, but sometimes it is also used for public launches.
