The government is making special efforts to introduce the 'Happiness Index' from next year, Decentralisation Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said.

Speaking at a press conference held to brief the media about the work being carried out by the Decentralization Ministry, Minister Shareef said that as the country progresses and progresses, there should be a way to understand the happiness, satisfaction of the people, what the people expect and what each island is in today.

"Since it is believed that it is important for people living in each island and others living in different parts of the country to understand the state of the island in the international arena, the government has decided to start a special initiative called the 'Happiness Index' of the islands in a meaningful way," he said.

He said that it is an attempt to understand the happiness of the people of rural areas and how they measure it and a standard to check it will be decided in consultation with the private sector.

"We are also looking at what parameters we will look at in determining this happiness index by taking feedback from the public and going ahead with the process in consultation with them and carrying out the index work within a framework that is acceptable to most people," he said.
