Criminal Court has sentenced a man to 24 years 11 months and 13 days in prison with a MVR 100,000 fine over drug trafficking charges.

The case pertains to an operation conducted by Police over intelligence about drugs stashed in an apartment on the fifth floor of M. Cessna. Police arrested Ahzar Ahmed on 8 January 2019.

Police checked the apartment with a Criminal Court order and recovered drugs. Police raised drug trafficking charges.

Criminal Court in its sentence said that Police submitted sufficient proof against Ahzar although the defendant denied the charges.

As such, the Court sentenced him to 24 years 11 months and 13 days in prison for Diamorphine trafficking charges and fined him MVR 100,000. Criminal Court ordered the fine to be paid to MIRA within 12 days.
