Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) will do whatever it takes to ensure workers' rights, its advisor and former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has said.
In a post on X on the occasion of Labour Day, President Solih said MDP is proud to have led the nationwide fight to secure workers rights in the Maldives having passed, amongst other protections, legislation to ensure a minimum wage for all.
“This May Day, I give my assurance that we will stay the course and do all that is necessary to ensure that our workforce enjoy the full protection of their rights,” he said.
While President Solih has stated that MDP will continue to ensure workers' rights, MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail recently stated that the MDP lost the last parliamentary elections largely because of the intimidation and influence exerted by the government.
